Fall 2008 Season is ready to start!!!

There are many updates and things to do before the season starts.  Take the time to read through the information below so we can get off to a good start.  Also, feel free to look through the website.

All communication will be done via this website—please check back frequently.

Please forward this website address to any family you think might be interested in playing ice hockey here in Shanghai.

We will have two different ice hockey programs this year.  The Shanghai Red Guard League:  Ice Hockey for Kids age 4 to 17.  Children will be placed on teams and in a league according to their skill level, and it will be both games and practice.  All practice and games are local to Shanghai, and kids of all skill levels are welcome.  Last year, we had 3 different leagues, with 4 teams per league and 6 players per team.  Squirt and PeeWee Traveling Teams:  Ice Hockey for kids between the ages of about 9 to 13.  There will be one team of each, there will be tryouts, and it will be primarily practice with games organized out of Shanghai throughout Asia against other top teams (probably 3 to 6 games per year).

Please click on the Squirt or PeeWee Traveling tabs for program plans.  These teams start August 30.

Shanghai Red Guard League Update

Registration:  Please visit the register tab above to get your child signed up for the Fall season.  Even if you were a member last year, you must get registered by September 6 via this website.  Please help make sure this is done so we can  get organized properly.

Schedule:  We are tentatively going to start on September 6th at Champion Rink.  The first 3 weeks will be practice/skill evaluation.  Times will be from approximately 8 to 11 both Saturday and Sunday mornings.  However, we are still negotiating ice times and new potential ice rinks to use, so check back often.

Ice Rinks:  Right now, we are working with Champion rink to secure ice time.  Directions are on the Rinks tab.  However, there is a new rink in Shanghai that is full size, and that we may get access to.  Let’s wait, hope, and see.

Fees:  Still to be determined, but likely in the 3400 to 4000 RMB per season range.  It all depends on what we can negotiate with the rinks.  Understand, we are non-profit and all volunteer.  The money goes to either ice time, professional coaches, jersey’s and end of year awards/banquets.  In other words, all the money goes to the kids ice hockey.

Board Members:  We are looking for an additional parent member to represent the younger group of kids.  Generally mite level who are 4 to 8 years old.  Contact Chris Koch, Robert Aspell Cordell Dietz or Ping Zhang if interested.
